I can't remember using win 3.1 much.. I do remember upgrading my msDos to 5.0 and fucking with autoexec.bat and config.sys to get dune2 to work. haha :P
Lol, how many of you remember the Commodore 64, or even better, the PET?
lol yeah.. fuck all this nu-school 386/486 shit. I remember when it was all Commodore 64/Amstrad 464/Vic 20/Apple IIe.. or moon patrol on a 8086
Oh holy shit! C&VG is still around... I used to get that when they included a few pages of BASIC code to code your own stuff instead of an attached DVD LOL.
I was farting around with Amiga back in those days. Win 3.x was shit compared to what the Workbench OS was capable of. Hell, even with no OS the damn thing ran games sweetly froma boot floppy and had pretty good framerates for what the hardware was.
I had a XT that ran only DOS with WordPerfect - none of this WYSIWYG wordproccesor crap - you had to try and imagine what it would look like.
Then I upgraded and got windows 3.11 and started a BBS using 'Cheetah' software I think - I managed to hook it up to email and was about the first person in town with an email address.
It was about 3 months before anyone emailed me - I nearly wet myself when I got it. It was test123 message from America, I couldnt believe it had come all the way over the ocean lol
I have headr thet there are some museums in internet where you see old (really old) versions of different sites, ans the other museums with screeshoots of old software, may be some one can share links ?
Atari 400 back in 1979/80 and eventually went for the external cassette player for programs that didnt come on a cartridge.
Thats what Im talking about.. I had Zaxxon on tape. I still have an Atari 400 up at my cottage with pacman, space invaders and star raiders.. dont have the tape player anymore.
I was using Corel Draw 2 .. blown away because it had lotssss of fonts and I could see it onscreen .. unlike Adobe Type Manager and Pagemaker ... on my paper white monitor ... running Stacker software for more drive space
I remember using 3.11 for workgroups and running this HP desktop manager a university computer tech guy gave me. The multi-virtual desktops were sweet.
