Definition of a racist <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<?

I have a question to ask of the ethnically diverse population here on GFY...

It has occurred to me that people have very different views on what is racist. For example:

if a guy Say's that most blacks are better at sports than most whites...is he a racist, or just stating an observation?

If someone tells a joke about a Jew and Mexican playing on their typical stereotypes, is he racist? or just laughing at our differences?

When Imus said "nappy headed hoes" was he really making a racist remark or just making an attempt at a Witty observation about the difference in hair type people of African origin have from Europeans?

In my opinion racism is tied to hate or a feeling that ones race is superior. otherwise you are just stating either the truth or the perceived truth.

Everyone has to walk on fucking eggshells that they don't hurt someone's feelings. I say grow the fuck up...WE ARE ALL DIFFERENT, NOT EXACTLY THE SAME, we can make believe we are all alike, or we can acknowledge it and even joke about it. Why not the latter?

Just curious what the other opinions on the subject are...

well i don't think we should be lax in allowing the "latter" because there is that fine line between a joke and an insult and most people, know how to abuse that line

shouldnt be it's plain english but then most people nowdays have no grasp of plain english

It depends who you ask.

My opinion is that racists are people who seek or support discriminatory policy or take action which discriminates against others on the basis of skin color or other arbitrary measure.

If you ask Al Sharpton, it may mean something else.

In my opinion, merely uttering the N word or telling a joke doesn't qualify someone.

I don't think it's racist. I really don't. Worst case scenario it may be naive, but even then I think it's just making a statement based on ones previous experience and shouldn't be taken seriously.

look, let's say a police officer sees a white guy in a black neighborhood, and he suspects he's there for drugs...racial profiling? NO! That's making a judgment call based on his past experience. For all he knows the guy is there visiting his girlfriend for Christ sakes, BUT odds have it that he's there for drugs. Fact of life. If it's me in a black neighborhood visiting my girlfriend, I'm not going to be pissed when I'm given the third degree, the guy is doing his job. of, course I'll ask him not to tell my wife, but I won't be pissed. Of course he thinks i'm there for drugs! 999 of the last 1000 guys he checked were there for that reason so why should he think differently?

maybe i'm way off here, I don't know. Anyone agree?

Agreed, a lot of stereotypes are wrong. In my opinion there are more socio-economical reasons there are more blacks in sports than whites, but right or wrong, the guy saying it is not a racist in my book.

Actually, what he's doing is pointing out genetic traits.

Any body builder will tell you that body building is all about genes, and that naturally and usually black people tend to have better genes in this department. It's not always true, but normally it tends to be.

This idiotic belief that all people are completely equal is just retarded.
