Maybe not anymore. However, I have personally done it twice and it worked. This is not a friend, or my cousins sister, this is ME.
The first time, the cop was behind a chain link fence, so I wanted to see how, if at all, the metal on the chain link effected the radar gun. So I wrote to the company that manufactured the radar gun, they sent me a letter refusing to respond. They were issued a subpoena and their lawyer refused to comply and filed a motion to quash the subpoena based on trade secrets. The subpoena was quashed and the court dismissed the ticket.
The second time, same exact thing, different manufacturer, but same exact thing.
