    Any dog people on?

    I am affraid I am a cat person - but I have been landed with the task of looking after a friends dog for 6 weeks.

    She will only eat what I eat - That cant be good for her. I dont want them coming back and finding an obese dog addicted to pizza and diet coke.

    I have changed her food 3 or 4 times but she wont touch it.

      How big is the dog?

      If it is a small dog, they will love the Ceasars dog food.. Give her two per day. If you just leave the food there, eventually they will eat it once they get really hungry, just try not to eat anything in front of them.

                  shes not eating because shes out of her enviorment ..feeding her people food is worse then her not eating at all !.Give her the dog food the owners provided you with..she will eventually eat that when she relizes her little "i dont eat dog food..i eat people food" gig is up ;)

                                  I am a dog person. They will eat the dog food if you don't 'spoil' them. Just like a little kid that would rather eat candy than good food. You aren't being mean by not letting them eat anything other than their dog food. My spaniel is a very picky eater and sometimes I feel horrible having to be strict with her but she would live on dog treats and never touch the good food if I let her.

                                                      Serious sock fetish but it has to be my bf's socks. She will find a way to get into the tall hamper and get one out and then she will act like she has found the holy grail. I figure it is a scent thing since dogs are so big on smells. My pug goes nuts with my pillow. Again, I assume it just smells a lot like me. She will attack it and then roll around on it like she is making sure it smells like her too. In other words 'mine!'

                                                                      Like it's been said, try to feed the dog the same brand it normally eats. Generally we say put the food down for 30 minutes, and if it won't eat take it away. Try again at the next scheduled time. If it again won't eat, take the food after 30 minutes. It will eventually eat.

                                                                      If you don't know what it eats normally and you're worried about changing foods, it's almost always alright to feed a dog plain white rice and boiled chicken (no bones!). Note, this diet willl help settle a sick dog's stomach aswell.

                                                                          You shouldn't change her food that will give her an upset stomach. The reason she is not eating is because she is in a new place, just give her a few days, when she is hungry she will eat

                                                                              Dogs can be without food for days without problems, as long as they have water. Some people actually feed their dog once every 3-day. And when they do they give the dog plenty of food of course.

                                                                              And as many other said. Don't give the dog your food. Leave the dogfood on the floor and let the dog eat it when it's hungry enough.

If you know someone doing that, tell them that is a great way to give their dog health problems. Bloat, liver problems, etc could stem from that. I also might suggest calling your local humane center. If you were not fed for three days, and then binged, don't you think you might get sick? It's no different for a domesticated dog.

                                                                                              Humans can go without food for days too. Try not feeding your children and see what happens to you.

                                                                                                  I know with my (ex) cats that if I didnt feed them for 3 days they would try to eat me.

                                                                                                  I did notice that if I stood with her she will eat - she is just scared of missing something.

                                                                                                      You need to feed your dog every day, or you will shorten it's lifespan and ruin it's quality of life. Binging on an irregular basis is not good. At all. Ever.


                                                                                                      As for the rest of what people are saying; they are right; don't feed the dog your food.

                                                                                                      We left our dog at my inlaws house while we were in france for three weeks, and he had put on 25% of it's body weight because they thought it was fun to "spoil him". Their spoiling caused him to have health concerns including joint issues from the excess weight.

                                                                                                              Cats and dogs have completely different metabolisms. Cats should be fed everyday for sure while dogs CAN go several days, although shouldn't.
