That's the kind of action that makes Al Qaeda an increasingly marginalized force in Iraq. For most of it's post-WWII history, Iraq's Sunni's have been largely secular. This kind of extremism just adds to people's distaste for Al Qaeda and extremist Islam in general. Perhaps, Iraqis are now separating Islamic extremism from nationalist resistance. You don't necessarily have to be the former in order to subscribe to the latter.
