well, how about cartoon denying the 9/11 ?
personaly I don't have a problem with cartoons no matter what's the subject, but some will have a problem with it , don't you think?
Exactly. I understand the point that people have a right to boycott newspapers, etc if they are offended, but legally we should not be prevented from printing such things. However in Europe, and Australia too I might add, certain topics about Islam, the Holocaust, or a range of other sensitive topics could land you in court. People have been saying that we should support Danemark and free speech in Europe should also understand that the American example of free speech provides a working Constitutional model (albeit not perfect, but an improvement no doubt) that should be adopted by Europeans and other Western nations also. Anyway that's all I wanted to say.

In Denmark the thought is that you can not make something go away by making it illegal. Ex. even though Denmark was invaded by the Nazis in WWII, then today the nazi party is not illegal in Denmark. Instead they are free to spread their bullshit, but they have to follow the same laws as any other political party, and accept that people will tear apart their arguments and lies... The result is that Nazi party in Denmark have less than 100 members, and that right wing political violences is low compared with the rest of Europe.

Now ofcourse it will not always make a "problem" getting smaller by allowing it to use freedom of speech... ex. when Denmark made porn legal in 1967, then politicians did it, because they thought it would make it less attractive to buy ;-))

However there are laws in Denmark, which do limit freedom of speech, but many of them have not been used for decades, and will probably soon be removed from the legal system.

Those who desire to give up freedom in order to gain security, will not have, nor do they deserve, either one.

Someone needs to make Bush and his lackies aware of this concept before we have no freedoms left.

Glad to hear, I know it is not the same story in much of Europe though. In Australia we are going backwards with our racial laws, our sedition laws, and now their pushing for laws that disrespect our flag. These laws are so broad that they can and have been used in a huge range of cases in which no charges, or at least not as serious charges, should ever of been laid. When I compare these such laws, and those in many European countries (Britian, Belgium, Germany, Austria, etc) I honestly do admire the US Constitution!

They need to fucking get a grip and sort it out amongst themselves. The moderate muslims say its just a small minority - in that case why dont they shut the fuckers up before we go in and shut the whole fucking lot of them up.

People are getting to sensitive. It's just a drawing, it can't hurt anybody. Everybody has their own view on things, whether real or fucked up. You'll never change the way they think, and by getting worked up over a little drawing you are letting them control you.
