    Canon camera's suck!!!

Ok, ive held back long enough.

bought it one year ago. Its now junk and the warranty has run out. Shutter locks up, and and you get a only the top half of the picture. Its been to the factory once allready for the same problem.

This one is more expensive then the other two, but you wouldnt be able to tell you paid almost double the price. The 20d has been to factory and back, and back to the factory. Then they lost the camera. Then they found it, and said they didnt get it until the 23rd of Jan, but we have the registered mail receipt saying they got it on the 10th. Still waiting for them to send it back.

this one is brand new. After about a couple weeks of shooting with it, Its now starting to spit out errors.

My wife spent an hour on the phone with canon today.

After an hour of trying to get things sorted, she finally talked to a supervisor, and was told.....

"a pro photog should know not to buy these 2 cameras"
" you need to buy the 1d"

    Ok thanks fucker.

Anyone got any advice on other cameras???

Im probably going to go Nikon this time.

My 20D is awesome. No problems at all (knock on wood)

That sucks to have so many issues with your cam.

I would be pissed off too.

I really didnt need the fucker on the phone to tell us the camera's cant handle that many pics being shot. Its pretty obviuos.

You guys are forwarned. These cameras will break down after so many pics.
More then one person from canon said it themselves on the phone, and Ive been told the same by a few others who have owned them too.

However they do not tell you that when you buy the shit.

Canon also said we were lucky to have shot the amount of photos that we had. Apparently, the camera's have a life expectancy of about 40,000 to 50,000 pics.

we had the same - with 3 or 4 of the 20D - and they refused to repair one on warranty cause the camera had done 180.000 pics. they are still good cameras, we just have two per photographer now for emergencies.

you can shoot a lot more than 40-50k if you treat it good. If you get maintenance done on it, IE sensor cleanings, and if it does comes down to it, a shutter replacement (not sensor, but shutter) then the camera is good to go again.

With that being said, I feel for you and your camera, that guy is a jackass, as most pro's have backup cameras as well.. So he's talking out his ass to get you off the phone.

                      +1 for Nikon

Just remember, there isn't bad cameras, just bad photgraphers. You should use a waterproof housing before shooting in swimming pools. You should also use a tripod with 3 legs instead of two. Do you have any cake?

You DID buy the wrong camera ............

If you thought Canon's customer service was bad ..... Nikon's is almost non-existent.

If you are a professional purchasing "cameras" forget about comparing specifications in the product lines. Purchase their top of the line model, always. You are then purchasing the "use and abuse factor" built into the camera.

Don't believe me ... Go to your local dealer hold a low/mid range camera in one hand ... a top of the line in another. Feel the tremendous weight difference? Heavy-duty professional grade parts vs birthday and vacation use parts.

You probably purchased the cheaper line because the image capture specs were almost the same right? Without the costs of film and developing it's easy to rack-up thousands of images. Moving parts wear-out, moving parts fail. Why do you thing the pro models cost more?

Why do contractors drive dully's when base pick-up trucks go just as fast?

Did you purchase the high or low end lens? There's a story there too.

Sorry you got a harsh treatment, but what they say is true.
The 20D is not a pro camera.
The 300/350 is not a pro camera.

The 1Ds is a pro camera.
The 1Ds Mk II is a pro camera.
The 1D MkII is a pro camera.

These cameras are made to withstand the workload you're putting them under - problems should come as no surprise to you.

Shutter fall information is readily available on the internet; so not to sound too arrogant, but you complaining that a camera fails when you use it in a method it wasn't designed for is just like complaining when you try to tow 3 horse floats behind a mini.

Long and the short: if you're doing 20k shutterfalls a week (which I find hard to beleive), get pro gear. Changing brands isn't going to help you.

                                          The fucking dreaded error 99.

Thats the first thing that starts to happen on our canons, before the shutter goes out.

This is supposedly supposed to be fix for the error 99.....

Indeed... they are "prosumer" cameras... somewhere in between consumer and professional.

So your performance will be somewhere in the middle to.

If you want a pro camera, you gotta go higher.

Changing brands isn't going to help you.

                                                point taken.

You guys are forwarned. These cameras will break down after so many pics.
More then one person from canon said it themselves on the phone, and Ive been told the same by a few others who have owned them too.

However they do not tell you that when you buy the shit.

If you purchased the camera from a REAL camera store, and explained it's intended use, then someone made a big mistake. If it was purchased from a discount chain or internet lowballer then the hourly sales help performed as expected.

                                                            Yo, piont taken as well.

I think we've pretty much established the fact that the cameras arent pro models. But your comparing the 20d and rebel to birthday and vacation cameras? Who pays $1700 (20d) for a birthday and vacation camera? Theres a gazillion smaller cameras that dont try to pawn themselves off as professional cameras.

It's just odd that you're complaining about Canons being "shit" when you are obviously pushing a non-pro camera well beyond its design limits. Even a 1 series shutter only lasts something like 150,000 cycles on average. You're probably quite lucky that they replaced the first failed shutter under warranty...

You will then always have a back-up on hand. You can also use two, each with a different lens.

NOTE; When I shot only film I used three Canon bodies, each attached to a different lens. Top of the line bodies were much cheaper than the lenses. This gave me back-up bodies and I never had to change lenses. NOW with the high cost of digital bodies this is impossible. And ... a new problem arises, dust in the camera during lens swaps.

It's just odd that you're complaining about Canons being "shit" when you are obviously pushing a non-pro camera well beyond its design limits. Even a 1 series shutter only lasts something like 150,000 cycles on average. You're probably quite lucky that they replaced the first failed shutter under warranty...

Replace that and your camera probably works just as well. If you're still waiting on the repaired body from the factory and you need to shoot, buy another one.

The aperture diaphragm would probably get quite a workout with 20k frames a week, unless for some strange reason you always shoot wide open.

BTW, I haven't seen it discussed much but there's also a finite life for the electro-mechanical parts of lenses. The aperture diaphragm would probably get quite a workout with 20k frames a week, unless for some strange reason you always shoot wide open.

Rowan, I will rent, $150. day, Nikon D-1x if I am being very careful about back-up. Your point on the lens is interesting. I have NEVER had a lens problem. Shit! I probably will now .....
