Just to illustrate this... My friend's mother works as a cleaner out in one of the oil-platforms. She works 14 days, then a month off, cycle goes like that all year.

I know Norwegians, they 'd love to emigrate to Sydney, Australia or Miami, Florida.
The climate in Scandinavia sucks big time.
You get paid more but food prices are the highest in the world and it's small compensation for such bad weather.

More like someone else gets what you pay for. You never see the taxation back, because the fact is most of gets wasted on scumbags, or lost in an inefficient and ineffective system. I support socialist policies to a degree, but certainly not to the degree the Scandinavian countries pursue it. Australia has only just started to move away from ridiculously high income taxes, to a low spending Government and it's a breath of fresh air. No longer do those who actually have ambition and work hard (and I don't mean just business people, but also those who work OT or have second jobs) get punished for their efforts. Norway tops "Best Places to Live" lists all the time -- by people who undoubtedly don't live there.
Take a look at a map, people, it's WAY north which means:
1) It's damn cold half the year
2) It's damn dark half of the year
So if you don't mind extreme, long, cold winters with almost no sunlight, be my guest... otherwise, these so-called lists should take things into account like the natural human need for sunshine once in awhile and not freezing your ass of whenever you step outside.

Norway totally rules. But so do other Scandinavian countries. Living standards are high and social differences are not as apparent as in the rest of the world. The corruption of police and other institutions is at its lowest in the world and if it wasn't for damn Poles who infested it, it would have been near ideal.Comment
