Maybe I'm out of touch on this subject but I've seen a few affiliates that are able to offer surfers signifigant discounts. Although most of the time it isn't a big deal, I feel that as surfers get more knowledgeable, they will figure out that certain sites always offer a discount on porn sites. So they surf around for porn, find a site they like, then they head over to the site that offers big discounts to surfers. Any thoughts?

I see nothing wrong with it but this industry is funny. It would make sense to have a site offering discounts or kickbacks from their affiliate commissions for people that surf porn often. Here's what would happen though
Guy makes site offering a % of money back when they join using his affiliate code. Some TGP submitter sees this, gets pissed and posts on GFY. To keep from pissing off a bunch of whiney submitters who will post it to all boards sponsor boots site from the program.Comment

Thats a dumb idea. If a surfer thinks he can get a better deal on an other site he will keep looking and never find the best deal and nobody makes any money....making a little cash, keeping our panties on.Comment

Now I understand what all those mindless lost consumers are doing roaming from one store to another to yet another trying to find the best deal on corn flakes.Originally posted by Promo ChicksThats a dumb idea. If they can attribute a sale to an affiliate than surely they can figure that out.Originally posted by DigitalPimpHow would one verify that a sale one got came from a particular person?Comment

I was referring to the affiliate in cases where sponsors provided no means for identifying the source of specific sales. Seems that without the sponsor providing at minimum the refering URL for each sale there is no way for affiliates to be able to tell which sales were made by which of their web site viewers so they would know which of their visitors to provide a kickback to.Last edited by DigitalPimp; 02-04-2006, 06:31 PM.Comment

You couldn't work with every sponsor on the planet but for the most part sponsors show referring urls. Just give each of your visitors a unique url per session for tracking. Oh, and of course every sponsor that shaves and / or "drops" cookies for whatever glitch they have that week won't want to participate.Originally posted by DigitalPimpI was referring to the affiliate in cases where sponsors provided no means for identifying the source of specific sales. Unfortunately of those that show referring URLs, the vast majority don't show them on a per sale basis which is what is needed in this case.Originally posted by chadglniYou couldn't work with every sponsor on the planet but for the most part sponsors show referring urls.Comment
