Jesus Christ was like Santa Claus, need i say more?
“Religion is regarded by the common people as true, by the wise as false, and by the rulers as useful.”
Seneca (Roman philosopher, mid-1st century AD)
Quote what you wish.
This has nothing to do with Religion at all. Though since you feel even admitting that a myth can have basis in reality goes against your idea that everything even related to religion has to be as false as a deity itself.
Despite that a large number of atheists and non religious historians all also think that the man himself did exist at some point.
The bible is the ultimate form of the Phone Game, especially since it's passed through various languages and "interpretations" through out 2 thousand years.
For example, modern stories/movies would have us believe that everyone in the bible is white.
I think, personally, that it all has some basis in reality... but got very much perverted through out the years from person to person telling the stories.
And if you've ever played the phone game, you know that what we know now and what was reality may be two entirely different things.

Yeah, Jesus Christ has nothing to do with religion (this comment made my day). Sorry for pissing you off stupid Church goer.
Get real, we don't know the name of that person, don't know its birth place, birth date, have only made-up witnesses.... although we know where the Sun as unique God came from: Egypt. It's no coincidence if all three religions Islam Judaism and Christianity were all born in this part of the globe. It was adopted by Arab rulers and Roman rulers, spread through the Arab and European worlds.
Jesus Christ is based on reality indeed, it's based on Astronomy. Primitive humans worship the Sun for milleniums, and still do via Jesus Christ.
Jesus Christ= The Sun.
What's gonna fucking difficult to understand?
The Church is so fucking scared of people telling the truth, i understand them though, it's doesnt take a genius to figure out why no Christian Church will ever admit that Christianity is a fraud and hundreds of millions of Europeans died for....... nothing.
Christianity began with the deportation of Hebrews/Jews and ended with the Holocaust.
Check this fucking Wikipedia entry. It's so empty.
"The main sources of information regarding Jesus' life and teachings are the four canonical Gospels of the New Testament: Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John."
The main reason why most scholars keep saying that Jesus existed is because most scholars studying Jesus Christ are theologists.
I personally know a bunch of theologists, the most retarded people on this planet.
I love History and own a network of History websites, and nobody gives a shit on the life of Jesus except theologists and Church goers.

Yes the question between jesus the individual and jesus the myth are two separate things and one can separate the possibility of a real person in comparison to the stories that the bible and religion have attached to the person.
I am also not a church goer, nor have I attended one since I was around 5 years old. Though apparently you rather make wild assumptions that hear a valid opinion. I am well past religious and the closest I would come to any form of religion is attributing the stars in connection with giving any planet life.
Just as we also know the names of the assorted Egyptian gods who were also men. Just men who attributed special powers on themselves and made others see them as gods.
As for your reliance on wikipedia, well that just shows your real level of intelligence. Wiki is about as reliable as reading tea leaves. It is open to anyone altering references and facts. It has no real basis nor historical backing that actual evidence would show.
We know names of a wide number of people from the same time period. This in no way makes jesus any more special than a roman guard though.
As it has been stated though, to many get way to uppity on any topic that gets close to religion or politics. Admitting one without the other is easy and very historically logical.
I suggest you keep quoting others and forget thinking for yourself. It obviously does not work for you and I apparently made the mistake of asking you to say something yourself. Admitting that a man named jesus existed and was spreading his view of religion around is a far cry from accepting any Christian idea's about him or even accepting faith as a whole.
I am done with you as you could not keep a normal line of conversation and debate going and had to resort to name calling and wild assumptions about myself.

Excellent videos. Thanks for sharing the link. The bit of history I had researched seemed to lead to a guy that was very active trying to defeat a strict caste system and get people to treat each other better. Somewhere along the way he got all this religious meaning assigned to him and it seems it would be something that flew in the face of what he was trying to get people to understand.
So interesting how symbolism in language gets twisted and turned and ultimately becomes dogma. My biggest gripe with any organized religions is when people fail to recognize that it's all passed along from HUMAN generation to human generation and is subject to all the frailties of human ego along the way. What's left this far down the line... how close to any original message can it possibly be?
Forgot to add the other thought that in my view anyway, religion is the result of people's fear of death and nothing else. They want an answer to comfort them and tell them their lost loved ones are ok and that they will be ok.

Not to mention few could read or write back in those old days, and the 'message' was 'interpreted' by the kings who ruled back then.
They controlled the scribes and religious folk of the time who re-wrote the Bible by hand.
Jesus was real and anyone who has read there history knows this if you cant be botherd to find facts for yourself just keep posting away and looking the fool.
xmas seems awfully intimidated by the beliefs of others.
Me, I tend to keep whatever beliefs I may have to myself, and let others believe what they want.
Life is more peaceful that way.
Personally I have ideas and few beliefs. I know ideas can change and I keep myself open to that possibility. Where people with beliefs, well they will rarely if ever even listen to a counter point. Be it the religious side or the non religious sides. Hell it goes for everything from abortion, evolution, to politics.
As a person yea probably, as some god's son, not likely. He was just the rock star of his time. He did nothing more than had a message the people wanted to hear. So in return he had followers and myths were soon after written about him.
In November, you can vote for America's next president or its first dictator.
But I reckon that also depends on your definition of "proof."
There's the bible - which has been proven quite a few times over to be rather accurate in many of it's historical texts and subtexts.
Then there's quite a few non-christian works that corroborate the existence of a man named Jesus who was also referred to as "The Christ' - but then, the validity of each of them have been disputed for many years, as this very argument of whether or not Christ existed has been a subject of debate for about as long as the Bible was constructed...
I reckon if Alexander the Great had as much skepticism surrounding him, you'd have just as much difficulty proving that he existed.
Or Buddha.
There's, certainly, tons more "evidence" that he ever existed than Socrates did... or Pythagoras... but no one questions that either of them walked the earth.
Historical evidence works a bit different than scientific evidence.
Personally, I think he was a man that walked the earth.
