my on board sounds card for one of my desktops has a horrible hum...can't hear it when music is going, but once the music stops that him just drives me nuts

either its dusty or you didnt connect the wires tight enough
had this before and thats what i fixed to get rid of it -
it is on board though
I wil disconnect each connection one by one and see if I can narrow it down to the exact connection causing it
thing is, i plug my head phones directly into the output on the sound card and I get the same hum
I might just have to buy a new top of the line sound card and say fuck it to the on board sound

oh i thought u hear the hum on an external speakers..cause thats what happened to me .. it would hum like crazy on my external speakers after i stop the music but when i tightened the wires to the external speakers, problem was fixed..
in your case i dont really have a clue, i was just giving u a headsup on my experience .. goodluckComment

Exactly, when they're designing average motherboards with integrated sound, they seldomly take interference from surrounding components seriously.
On quality motherboards, things like IDE and RAM slots are located strategically (farther away from possible interference sources).
The chipset itself can suck too sometimes, like VIA's early-production (I prefer Nvidia-based when I need a mobo with integrated stuff).
It could just be that you don't have the microphone loopback output muted... that one usually gives a nefarious humming/buzzing.Last edited by Diligent; 11-17-2007, 12:28 PM.

yep when I upgraded my soundcard it gave me that same annoying HUM ... unbearable !!!
So I just kept my old one...
Return this one, Try a different soundcard brand or something !Comment

Make sure the wires do not cross any other wires. Particularly wires for power in the monitor(s) or computer. Get better wires that are shielded.Comment
