Used epassporte card and got laughed at

I just went to best buy to pick up a portable dvd player and when i tried to pay with my epassporte card the cashier laughed at me and wouldn't take it. he said the card looked fake because the numbers on the card were not raised like other cards. so he got the manager and after a lengthy discussion and some persuasion that i wasn't trying to scam them they finally decided to accept the card. it was quite embarassing to say the least. why aren't the numbers raised on the card to make it look "authentic"

Because its a VISA Electron card, its not allowed to be used in true offline transactions so you can not take a print of the card like normal VISA cards.

ePassporte's card numbers are flat because it is a PREPAID Visa Card. The card will only work at electronic swipe merchant terminals. The merchant must perform an electronic authorization at the time of sale to ensure they receive the funds. Some merchants do not have a swipe machine and only take imprints of the card. To ensure the card is not used in this manor the numbers on an ePassporte Visa Card are not raised.

My advice to you, should this happen again, is to ask the Merchant to simply swipe the card and if they receive an authorization, the card is obviously not ?fake?.

I only go to ATM's and pull $$ out that way you don't deal with that.

thanks shaliza, i know a few years back scammers were making fake swipe cards and using them so i guess thats what the guy thought, that it was a card i made with someone else's account stored in the strip.

it is how they make more money
you dont even want to know how fast i go thru cards :/
numbers can rub off if you just rub your thumb across it card

yes you are right, that happens with the paypal cards, the numbers are raised but after only a few months in your wallet they basically go flat

You can upgrade to ePassporte Select card holder that will increase your limits.
Its done by adding a second credit card or a bank account (US only)

Laughed at? How rude. People get a chuckle out of my card as it says "Sherie Rocks" on it...not my doing btw lol. I went to use it in Florida at the GUESS store and they wouldn't accept it because the numbers weren't raised. Funny how Louis Vuitton didn't have a problem with it, infact they had seen the card before...Thank gawd, because that would have been embarrassing. I have had to explain to some retailers that it's a prepaid card..I have only had one instance where it wasn't accepted as I said above...Oh well...
