As you all know I spend a great deal of time on here poking fun at sexuality, including my own homosexuality. I've found one of the best ways to break down barriers is through the use of humor, and I think it's served me well on this site so far.

However, when things like this happen, I think it's important to take a moment to remind everyone of the struggles that gays and lesbians in this country face on a daily basis.

We have come a long way towards educating society about what homosexuality really is, and what it is not. We've also slowly started to make headway towards equal protections and rights, but we still have a long way to go.

If you're an individual struggling to cope with your own sexuality, please know there are others out there that know how you feel, and are waiting to help. The following resources are out there waiting for you:

As for the incident itself, I feel for those families. I would encourage those wishing to show their support to think about making a donation to one of the organizations that fight against this type of hatred toward the gay community on a daily basis:
