A good waiter, bartender, chauffeur, etc. doesn't dislike the overall pay. They can make VERY good money with the right company. We are talking about "why" one should tip here. 15% isn't a lot to ask for a minimum tip if the service was average.
You're beginning to sound like Mr. Pink in "Reservoir Dogs."
Some of you are just plain ignorant. If you don't understand the concept of tipping by now, you will never understand. You were probably brought up as a child with the "I don't believe in tipping" belief and continue with it as an adult.
I totally understand the concept of tipping and how important it is for the person getting tipped. I always tip very well.
However, I fucking hate it.
Why should some people get tip and other don't ? Why shouldn't we tip 15 % to the people serving us in a store ?
Why can't the fucking boss charge 15% more on everything and just pay it to the fucking employes.
Having been in your shoes years ago.. we called that "Rolling the dice" sometimes you win.. in this case you lost! Next time.. remember.. a Bird in the hand is worth 2 in the Bush

For those of you that dont like to tip.. or think that its an option. That tip is designed to be factored into the wage of the wait-staff/Bartender. Its why they make below minimum wage.
Tips is an acronym for "To insure prompt service" If you think that getting rid of that system is a great idea. They will just build that into the cost of the food and take that discressionary cost out of your hands. Then you get to deal with a server that may or may not give you the best service possible as they get paid the same regardless, go into a Home Depot and see what kind of service you get out of those guys! ( no tips, no motivation) But either way.. you will still have to pay the same amount.

Then it will be the restorant's fault for not getting a good enough team of waiters to provide good service.
If any business would give you bad service, would you come back ?
No
Forcing your employees to rattle their beggars cup by paying them abysmally low wages should be a crime.
Serving tables was helping pay my rent during college. There is a lot of money in it. You guys have absolutely no idea how hard it is to wait tables and deal with people who believe you should wait on them hand and foot.
This is precisely why I get pissed at restaurant owners. They are the ones who arent paying you what you're worth!! THEY are the ones who DO have absolutely EVERY idea how hard it is to wait on people hand and foot, and DESPITE that knowledge they continue to abuse you and the customer! lmao
You see it's politics/business done perfectly. Get the people you underpay to be pissed at the people who are there to pay you. The house always wins.
LOL the self entitlement people have now days is just amazing.
No doubt, especially the effin hobos! I was at union station in toronto the other day and some hobo asked me if I had change.. I said no.. and the hobo went "yeah right..." and walked off. Like WTF!! even if I had change I wouldnt give it to his hobo ass.
If you do not get me my refill before I have to ask. You loose points on the tip-o-meter.
If there is a hold up on my food, and whether your fault or not, you do not stop by to tell me there will be a delay or why. You loose points on the tip-o-meter.
If I have to ask you for anything during the course of my meal that should be common knowledge. You loose points on the tip-o-meter.
If everyone else in the restaurant brings me my food, refills my drinks, and all you did was take my order. You loose points on the tip-o-meter.
If I sit down, and you do not at least stop by, say hi, bring menus, water, etc in the first 5 minutes. You loose points on the tip-o-meter.
I tip when it warrants. If you give shitty service. You get shity tip.
The end.
I love when I hear people complain about bad tips, and yet they are always in the back telling their latest stories with their co-workers. My sister worked at a place, and would tell me a lot of the stories. I knew some of the waitresses by name there, and when I would hear about how some never made good tips. I would be like, "Well tell so and so next time to get people their soup when it's hot. Or their refills without having to ask... etc"

Why should it be any different for a restaurent.
But how often do you go to an establishment other than a restaurant and that is non commission based and get service that goes above and beyond?
Besides if the restaurant wants the best in service staff.. they will pay for it.. and guess who gets stuck with the bill... The patron and you are right back where we started

if i bring a party of 8, im assuming the tip is already added. i've never known a restaurant that didnt automatically add the tip for a party of 8... be it 15% or 20%.. i'm a decent tipper and will normally add another 10-15%.
removing the auto gratuity was really dumb and greedy.. if you left it on, he couldve still gave you more dipshit.
i'd tell you to gfy but sounds like you already did.
hope it felt reaaaaaaaaaaal goooooooooood.
just last week i paid pizza hut delivery boy $35 in quarters.. (the bill was $27). i let him keep the plastic tub i put them in as an added tip. .. i had called them and told them i only had a $100 and bring change and instead of just saying "ok" which is really all i want to hear when i tell someone what to do, they said he didnt have change and could i just give him the $100 and he'd go get change.
um no
now you got change mo.
as long as you learn from it, just move on.
no sense in being a pussy about it
bartenders are the ones raking it in, but its a double edge sword, you get in young, make good money and before you know it, your a 60 year old bartender that has accomplished nothing and look 95 from the rough lifestyle.
the last 3 out of 4 times i've gone to a nice place here in l.a. to eat the service was terrible. it reflected in the tip.
serving is a dying art. no one gives a shit anymore. everyone in hollywood wants to be an actor and could care less about you or your steak.
if you're a good waiter, you'd get a good tip from me, but its not a guaranteed thing. tips are given accordingly. if i get excellent service i will tip sometimes over 30%. if its bad. i will normally write 1.00 on there with a face so they know that they suck bad. (thats in the cases where they dont blame the kitchen, which is common). if they project terrible attitude and service level, you shouldn't be a waiter.
