flashfire, like v_rocks says, it is everyone business because these people steal from other webmasters. Today it's might be me, tomorrow it might be you. Have you ever seen a 10mps line PINNED because of hotlinkers? Until you see it, you don't realize how much of a pain in the ass it can be.
It also takes surfers away from profitable gallery and free site viewing, and puts them into "free porn without effort" mode, which means they learn not to pay for stuff.
supporting thieves and scammers is a really bad idea, and I wonder why DG and AFF intend to do about it... or will they come out and say clearly "we don't care who steals from who, it's just traffic we want", and then I will feel better.
