The joke about the colombian peso may not be far off. Look at it, the price of what, other than real estate isn't increasing? Commodity prices across the board -- why should coca be any different than wheat? Price of oil is up, transportation is going to cost more too. The DEA shouldn't be so fast to pat themselves on the back.
The only argument I buy is that the government could try to keep the quality of a drug low to prevent widespread usage. Otherwise, who the fuck that would otherwise do drugs does not because they are illegal?
