and you check in early enough, you are going to love this new system. If not, maybe not

They used to assign you to a boarding group, A, B, C or D, dependent on when you checked in online. Now they break it up into groups of 5, ie: I was A45, which meant that even though I walked upi to the gate 30 minutes before take-off, and there were several hundred people in front of me, I was able to find a nice counter to sit at so I could login, check my mail, make a phone call, and start this thread.
When time came to board, I walked to the front of Line 2 (they break it into groups of 30 A1-30 and A31-60, then sub-groups of 5). I was the 45th person to board, pretty much got my choice of seats, and am talking to you while everyone that got here ahead of me are still boarding.
I have to admit, when they first announced it I thought it would suck. Now I love it.Comment

Too many frequent flyer points to switch airlines, although I have heard good things about Blue. However, they are not at LAX, and LAX is just too close for me to even consider another airport (except maybe Torrance Airport, but I will have to wait until I get my private jet for that).Comment

Just seems strange, you could be stuck in traffic while I'm at the gate but you get to board first? How soon before departure can you check-in? Sounds like everyone needs to update their secretaries on how to get a good seat for the boss.Comment

I hate SWA, even though they have the best business model in air travel market. Since I don't make money off it, I could care less about that.
Plus, I hate Terminal 4 in Phoenix, so I tend to stay away from them.

You can't check in until 24 hours before departure. I noticed today that they have something new for the real frequent fliers (32 flights a year). I guess they can check in 72 hours ahead of time. They deserve it. I am not going to fly that much.
Anyway, if you are stuck in traffic, and you checked in before me, but you get to the airport before boarding, you get on first. That does not mean they are going to stop the boarding process while we wait for you to get there.Comment
