Stumbled on to a CP ring

I've been on a campaign eliminating Rapidshare content/links from various boards. There was one board in particular that I was working tonight which I had a poster who just wouldn't stop his rapidshare posts. (Most had given up after they had gigs of content removed from their 300 page+ threads). This guy is one of the largest posters on that board.. so I stepped it up a notch and googled his username. Ironically, the third entry in google was a shared password site where someone else has cracked his user/pass on a paysite. I figured what the hell and tried the combo on the rapidshare board. It worked. After removing his updated threads with content from Sapphic Erotica, FTV Cash, Diesel Action and various others.. I changed his email/pass in profile and locked him out of the account. Curious again.. I punched the same user/pass into his gmail account. Now mind you.. he is posting as a woman on this board... It works again and HE has lots of attachments...I made the mistake of clicking on one of the messages with attachments.... and you guessed it... He's in a very large CP ring with a ton of email addresses.

I logged out immediately... all done using a high-anonymous proxy server.. but if I report him to the authorities, can I get in trouble for compromising the accounts? I never thought there would really be any legal issues with some vigilante content removal on a rapidshare board.. However, Gmail is a different deal and I think this is a pretty big fucking deal.

Go to Asacp.org to report it.

And yes you can do it without revealing your identity.

They have a link on the upper right column that lets you report it. Just read they FAQ page to know exactly how to do.

Get a hold of your main local police department and they will or should pass you on to the nearest relevant govt officer who deals with this stuff OR you can file a report online with the VGT (Virtual Global Taskforce) and they will disseminate your information to the relvant country law enforcement or Interpol - an officer will then contact you to get as much information as you can give to help - the VTG report can be filed here:-

You are gonna have to get yourself a lawyer to explain your actions. If what you did was illegal then anything after that is in question. Its like breaking into to someone's home, finding a blunt on the kitchen table and reporting it to the cops. It will never hold in court.

Trust me I have sued the biggest companies online and know the court system.

Thanks but I'll retain one if anything happens which is highly unlikely. They would have to subpoena an ISP in China. Besides... I didn't find a blunt.. more like a dead body in the eyes of the authorities.

Any law what claims email crap is remotely related to breaking into a home is bullshit and none has suggested that a report needs to hold up in court. LE do their own investigations and gather evidence which they present in court.

It is sad that, with rare exceptions, the responses on this thread on the subject of CP have only had pathetic responses from people who obviously have a fear of law enforcement to the extent that they would be unlikely to file a report, or at most, file an anonymous report, in case their own asses are put in jeopardy - basically no balls.

Unfortunately, you are correct in some of those fears. I sent my reports to a few agencies anonymously with the login/pass and other pertinent info on this guy's account. This motherfucker is sick man... I knew he was a little fucked up roleplaying as a lesbian teen on a board full of guys - getting a nut on the responses he gets to his posts. This is from an Abby Winters post.

Also.. I have reasons to be paranoid. Between prison, probation and parole. This is the only time in my adult life I haven't been under some type of judicial supervision. The whole reason I got into this biz was because I can't get a job in corporate America anymore... background checks fuck me everytime. So yeah.. it's a little edgy working from the other side of things now.

Call the FBI in Chicago from a pay phone and let them know you want to report CP.

They'll put you in touch with the agent that handles this and you can explain
what's going on and they'll take it from there and never talk to you again.

They won't bust you for looking at one pic for a few seconds but if you clicked on several for several minutes then that's different.

That stuff can sometimes be more than it first appears to be, but - to give em some cred, - LE manages to extract what may be happening underneath. The worst example I ever came across originated from a one-time GFY member and knew *something* was wrong, but just could not pin it down - it was kinda CP suggestive, but sure not actual CP or anything which appeared illegal. Got an govt agent friend to browse the site and try and pin it down - sure enough in about 60 seconds it was confirmed to be actual CP on the server.

The individual involved was a small fish and not involved in the more serious issues at stake. Five police forces had been monitoring them for over three years and the main "persons of interest" were in one jurisdiction where they were suspected of killing.. think three kids to keep them quiet and the bodies had not been found. It's still an ongoing investigation - until the children or their remains are found. At the moment there is just not enough evidence to lay charges.

actually thats not true. Lots of proxy servers don't log connections at all. Those are high anonymous proxy servers because they record nothing.

That's often the case.

His story does hold water, though. It was easy to find the forum he mentioned -- and then the person he was talking about -- thanks to the screenshot. A quick trip to google turned up "andys" password (for tnvgirls.com). That's as far as I took it, but it does all match up with his story.

As a side note: The guy in question apparently had his avatar changed.. to the FBI logo.
