I am not so sure that poor people still shouldn't be allowed to vote. If you notice, thats about when things started to go to hell, is when they got the right to vote. Not sure on that. But nobody got hanged for speaking out here. Except maybe some slave owners hanged some of their slaves to teach them a lesson, but that is different than the government doing it under color of state. As for slavery and servants, what was wrong with that? Many countries were doing it at the time, it was a common practice throughout the world. The Indians lost a war, mostly because they wanted to accommodate the conquers more than they wanted to kill them - big mistake. Thats the way it was. I am part Indian so don't even bother to accuse me of being racist.
