nothing new here, these tests took place from beginning of 60's and results were really useful for advertisement. However, applying those (and many more) proven principles to adult design is really hard. That's why my best converting tours are those where the client gives me freedom. Besides, when you try to explain all the reasoning behind a tour and why you make things like you did at some point you start to sound like an smart-ass or you simply give up and say "whatever". Sadly, if you want to keep clients you need more "whatevers" than effective design.

Anyway, eyes positioning is a very strong resource since it leads your visual point, but also content positioning, text length and style, psychology of color (to me the more important aspect but for what I see most designers around here will say "whaaaaat?"), facial expression, shapes, colors depending on shapes, typography design, etc. And let's not even start with marketing tools. Right now I can identify only 2 adult designers that use these tools in a consistent basis, although I agree that maybe there are others applying the "whatever" way same as I'm forced to do many times.

Anyway, Gene, good post as usual, hope more people starts to see good design leads to more sales and learn that sometimes is better an eye than a gaping ass. But what do I know...
