Making money from mainstream informational sites?

I'm building some mainstream informational sites about a variety of topics, mainly within the same "industry" or "niche". I'm just wondering what kind of money can be made from sites like this? I'm mainly doing it to keep my brother busy and to teach him that hard work can and does pay off, but I would like to at least break even on the whole ordeal, haha.

So I was thinking Google, CJ, and other related affiliate programs. Can any of you mainstream guys give me any extra advice?

I've been thinking about trying the same thing. I reckon the best bet would be a combination of google ads and CJ.

You can also try selling ebooks from CLICKBANK. Find high value PPC topics and put adsense ads on the pages. Also find related Clickbank ebooks and hyperlink some of the keywords to those ebook sales pages.

ClickBank.com is your best bet, forget about CJ, CB has over 100k affiliates who know how to sell ebooks, and trust me there is lots of money that can be made. I own a mainstream affiliate message board which can help you with your ebook. Hit me up on icq.

I would suggest for him to start a blog, actually. The information that he gathers can later be meshed into an eBook. A wider spectrum of topics and lots of discussion leads to higher exposure in the SEs.

Google adsense will probably be the best on your case, there are some similar services but not so good at least for me.

I'd have to know what is your niche/industry before being able to recommend anything else.
