I receive an email every time someone comments on a video, but to actually read it I have to load the original video URL. Seems kinda pointless.

Presumably you only get them on specific videos, not every time each video on Youtube gets a comment?

2. Maybe you see some other vids and start clicking.
3. One more page view for alexa

Agreed, but with the amount of comment spamming these days their requirement to load the page is wasting my time. Mostly I don't bother reading the comments immediately as they're posted, instead I just go through my small collection of uploaded videos about once a week to weed out the spam, or approve the 5% of comments that are legitimateComment
