help! someone using my stolen images!

hey peoples, i saw this in my stats today:

this creep is hotlinking my personal images for his own evil purposes. it's bad enough that he has "stolen" them but i am paying for his bandwidth too......that and the fact i am really upset because they are *my* pics, not just pics i own. here is my original gallery on my server:

Do you have htaccess, and will that not stop this?

Also, although a pain in the ass, at least you have your url on the pics, you might get some sales from this

maybe you could configure the htaccess, to show the thumbs and then direct the surfer to your sign up page, just make sure it has a self top tag in it to combat all the consoles

HEY! This is the BEST way to deal with hotlinkers....

1. Ascertain if the person is male or female.

2. Go to uglypeople.com and get a REALLY ugly pic of the same gender as your hotlinker.

3. Create a "personal ad" with the pic. Be sure to mention "strong desire for anal sex" and "love to suck off two guys at once" stuff like that. Use photoshop to make a 640x480 advertisement, using that pic, text, and the hotlinkers ACTUAL email address.

4. Rename the hotlinked image(s) and re-link your pages. Name the ad the same as the image name they're hotlinking, and upload it to the same place as the original image.

NOW, instead of hotlinking porn, they're putting an ad on their own site looking for hot dick (if they're a guy) or hairy lesbians (if they're female) Also, if you make the image BIG, it will slow down their site and ruin their site design..... have fun with it.

Here's an example of what I meant... this image is named exactly the same as the first thumbnail he's hotlinking...

Wouldn't you like to see the look on his face when this image replaces the first thumbnail in his gallery?

And... it's HIS email address, from his gallery page... maybe he'd even get "replies" to this "ad"....

if you want a copy of the .htaccess to use i can ICQ you one, it will return whatever image you want, make one that says "this image is illegally hotlinked, for the real thing click whatever.com"

get some free advertising from their scab practices b4 busting them!

Contact the webmaster/legal contact
for the site that is hotlinking you.
Ask for their mailing address so that you can send them a bill for the bandwidth.

and/or

Get the person's e-mail address (hopefully it's an ISP address and not a free one) and back track them to their house.

Hang the SOB!! Here is an addy to the free mail host that should get you some help. Have them send him mail and cut him off from their service. Some of them have blacklists too. [email protected] Cammies are becoming a popular group to hotlink and steal content from. I have a egroup with cammies that are on this bent. lol When we're actively working we find up to 50 sites a month doing this very thing. And they are mostly Spanish and German sites which make it tuff to get. Check your cam image page closely!

I mean, if you are going to put YOURSELF on the web and someone steals it that is sooooo much more of a personal violation than stealing pics that you just bought (that's bad enough). Hang in there, give 'em shit and let us know how it goes. By the way I love you're name...my little sister was named Amber back in '75. I picked out the name when I was 2 years old....still think it's the prettiest name out there A helluva alot better than apriljoy. My dad named me.....a hippy that did so love the springtime LOL.

I agree with the replies about sending the people that click on those images to your server.

But also I would make up an invoice for the bandwidth used and send it to the address that EvilManson supplied.

Mention that it's a bill for the bandwidth useage for the images being used at http://freeporncity.cenhost.com/gallery.php?galno=313, and also send a cease and desist letter.

Send them certified mail. They'll have 30 days to reply. If they do not respond in 30 days, OR respond, but refuse to pay, call a lawyer. They will probably not pay but that's okay, you now have certified proof that you mailed them a bill, and a cease and desist.

You also have proof (by simply posting here) that you noticed they were stealing your photos on this day.

If you do contact them, keep all correspondence, it's your best proof if you need to go to court over this.

Those images are you, and you need to protect tham at all costs.

Hey, I'd do 2 things, first off email the person and tell them that you don't approve of what they're doing and tell them that hotlinking pics on your server and also posting your pics on their page is illegal, that you demand that they come down ASAP or you'll be forced to take legal action against them. There's a lot of people out there that are newbies and really don't mean any harm in what they're doing, even though they are causing harm, they're just new to the business and just need to be shown in the right direction.

If they don't take down your pics in a day or two, I'd email the host. I see that the site is hosted on a free server. I'm sure that most free servers will pull that site down in a heartbeat if you explain to them that they're hotlinking and using your pics without permission.

I like sKiTz's ideas about it. Some of my buddies had problems like that and the made up some pics like that. It must've made the hotlinker feel like an ass after that, he he.

Well, good luck with your problem. I hope that you can get it resolved.

We have dealt with approx 40 freehost sites as well as pay concerning hotlinking. Every one of them except dollarhost immediately jerked the sites. Technically the hoster is as guilty as the hotlinker when its CI. Anyone making profit from CI is sueable under the law.
I wouldn't mail the person with a asap, I'd demand they remove them immediately. Get a 1800 buck bill for BW overuse some month and you'll learn to get a real attitude about these jerks. Be prepared for an argument tho. And yes get yout htaccess working. It can be worked around but not that many can do it. There are also javascripts out there for this sort of thing. Hopefully Image Protect gets their site and software back online. It really prevents this. Also digimarc your pics and pay for their spider and you can track thieves easily!
FalconFoto has already set precedent in our courts for CI so it will be a breeze to sue the p*ss out of them.
Sorry for the venom but a thief cost us a well deserved vacation from this sort of thing and I'm *still* mad! lol

I disagree SJ, CI laws are International. Might not make serious cash off a lawsuit but you surely can shut them down one way or another. Sorry if we don't value your opinion after reviewing your site. Some of the webmasters here obviously don't give a d*mn aboout laws or ethics, Let alone the surfer that pays the bills. lol I believe the old man calls them wannabes. I'm beginning to think that this thread, and "Amber" are just a wild goose chase. Since the pics are on cenhost.com, a simple email to CEN would have the pics removed in a heartbeat.

I emailed "Amber" the image I created yesterday, and got no reply at all.

Lots of good advice here that would have had a gallery shut down by now easily... but none of the advice has been taken...

Makes ya' wonder.......

i let him leave the pics up for now, i am getting traffic from that page meaning people are typing in my URL right from his page. the pics are all dinky k-wise so i am just letting it slide and snagging his traffic. as soon as i see the hits go down i will take action.

great idea!

I've had that problem in the past. The guy was linking to my daily pics and showing them right in his website. He had a small link to me under the pic. I told him to fuck off, and he was like 'I'm linking to you, what's your problem?' The moron couldn't understand that by copying all my content on to his site, no one would want to come to my site after his, PLUS he's using my bandwidth, PLUS he's falsely stating that the content on his site is his own. What an idiot.

Anyway, I grabbed a digusting pic of some guy torn in half in a traffic accident, and let him link to it.

I like your idea a lot better, though

So Americans can sue Europeans over 'stolen' pics that they have downloaded onto their pc, and then uploaded to their site?
Surely by viewing them on their pc (which automatically saves the pic) they have 'stolen' it?
Or is it that they have uploaded it that makes the pic stolen?
And how you going to get a peseta out of an unemployed Spaniard or ANY money off a Russian???
I think you should just make the stolen image a portal to your own site ;-)
