There was a german shepherd (Max) on the road were we grew up. That dog would lets us do anything to him. We played, pulled his ears, tail, rode on his back and all kinds of stuff kids will do to a dog but he just sat or lay there like he loved it.
The only time he ever did anything was when someone came walking down the street that he did not know. He would simply get up and sit between us and whoever was coming down the road and keep a watchful eye.
