Oddly after speaking to some family members who did a lot of family history our British portion had a family member taken in a piracy raid, brought back to Africa and then ransomed back to our family for a tidy sum. Being curious I researched more as was surprised at how many people were stolen and kept as slaves or ransomed back, how big of a business it was, and how many were effected.
Now question time. Am I allowed to say and bitch that my family was taken in a slave trade and sold back to buyers? Do I get to have a racial chip on my shoulder? Just asking. |
black were and still are a very minor part of the slave trade. the majority of slave were take from eastern europe and sold in the middle east. the slavs, hence the word: slaves.
oddly enough the country that did the most to abolish slavery is the country held the most responsible.
slavery wasn't officially outlawed until the 1920's world wide. several country's were very pissed about it. it's only the 'west' that views slavery as 'wrong'
interesting factiod: in 1835 a black man in the south lived in a wood framed house with wood floors and lived to be 35, a man in ireland lived in a mud hut with mud floors and lived to the age of 24.
