Does anyone else get the feeling that this is about the only bill which came from George W. Bush himself? Like, he has been pestering the administration for five years trying to get at least one of his ideas put into law?
This is just about spot on for someone of his IQ.Comment

This bill wasnt made by Bush. It was made by Spector. Spector is one of the most liberal Republicans around. If I had to point to one Republican Senator and say "He needs to go" It would be him. This little blip of a law isnt going to be used to put anyone in jail. Maybe if it was someone stalking someone and being pursued for other matters it might be used to add onto the list of charges that would be it. Silly people...Originally posted by whoDoes anyone else get the feeling that this is about the only bill which came from George W. Bush himself? Thats hardly the point.. you dont make laws for no purpose..
Your right in one respect , its unlikely they will start policing forums, but this law is one of those laws that will be mostly ignored until the feds have some reason to "get you" then they will use this law to infringe on your rights.. ( IMO)hatisblack at yahoo.comComment

I think it will be used to get people they have something on, but cant quite prove it, if its ever used. Im imagining it will be amended out of the bill. In fact I almost guarantee it will. At least the language of it. The annoy part is a bit too vauge. Might be good if they reword it to only being terroristic threats.Comment

January 10, 2006 11:00 a.m. EST
Hector Duarte Jr. - All Headline News Staff Reporter
Washington D.C. (AHN) ? A Customs and Border Protection spokeswoman says U.S officials are opening personal mail that comes in from abroad when they deem it necessary to protect the country from terrorism.
This news comes on the heels of revelations the government resorted to eavesdropping on citizens without previous government approval following the 9/11 attacks.
Suzanne Trevino, a spokeswoman for the agency, says, "Customs and Border Protection is charged with making sure that terrorists and terrorists' weapons don't enter the country. One of our areas of responsibility is to inspect international mail coming into our country. We respect privacy and always keep that at the forefront, but at the same time we need to make sure we do our job in keeping U.S. citizens safe."
The Customs and Border Protection Web site states, "all mail originating outside United States Customs territory that is to be delivered inside U.S. Customs territory is subject to Customs examination."
Grant Goodman, an 81-year-old retired history professor, drew attention to the matter after discovering a letter he received from a colleague in the Philippines was opened and resealed by the agency, and then forwarded to him.
He expressed shock at the fact the letter had been screened.
Goodman tells Reuters, "It was a big surprise. The public should know that this is being done. Nobody whom I know had any idea that this was going on. And as far as I know, it's never been announced. It's never been revealed that this is being done."
True, laws are not applied ....

What part of the first Amendment of the Constitution do you right wingers not understand?
"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or ABRIDGING THE FREEDOM OF SPEECH, or OF THE PRESS; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."
Funny how right wingers claim to be the ones that support less govt intrusion yet you have no problem with this, wiretaps, warantless searches, etc. This is nothing more than a republican attempt to target people that speak out against them and gives them the tools to do it legally. Another nazi tactic that you support. You ought to be ashamed of yourself.Comment

Thats nothing new, and isnt something Bush started. Post office has always been allowed to inspect suspicious mail. They did that back in the 80's. Hey but blame it on Bush.

Please explain how the first Amendment applies to what we were speaking about, or for that matter wiretaps on calls from the middle east.. What is a warantless search btw? lolOriginally posted by SuckOnThisWhat part of the first Amendment of the Constitution do you right wingers not understand?

Every day that Bush is in power, more American rights are quashed. This is total bullshit, a complete violation of free speech. It's like you are living in a police state instead of a democracy. What can you Americans going to do to get your rights and freedoms back? This is almost as bad as China!Comment
