200 questions about yahoo and search engine marketing

It is yahoo's traffic. I dont think it looks all that good for them but that is an ethics question isnt it?

I am sure you can find shit like this done on adult sites and business to.

correct. i think thats why this thread was even started. ethics and integrity of a long standing belief that none of those spots are not sold. if they aren't sold, then a major ethics question is posed on how this company, still presumed innocent until found otherwise, is getting peoples tld search traffic.

I wonder where search engines fall legally speaking.

There must be some limit. Imagine if you ran a conventional business
and then a company that did marketing for you paid the phone company
to replace your listing with one that went to their number. They could
then claim to be the "Source" of a good chunk of your customers even
though they did alsmot nothing to find and deliver them.

The only thing limiting the search engines is whether a user finds a
particular search engine worth using. And as long as those top spots
still bring the surfer to the kind of page they were looking for, search
engine companies don't need to care about ethics.

If I owned yahoo I wouldnt have any free listings at all. Also I dont think they are "innocent" I think they redirect the clicks through wildline as a paid spot. It's just that it is thier traffic to do with as they please. I dont think wildline is doing anything wrong either they are just trying to send joins.

thats what everyone is waiting to see. one of these two situations is true.

!) yahoo is selling those spots in some manner.
          2) wildline is doing something to pass their code through to sponsors.

another reason why i'm just sitting by the sideline waiting. no sense in getting all worked up until everyone really knows what happening.

            It's a ridiculous situation.

I agree that if an affiliate actually earns a number 1 spot through SEO, then he should be fully entitled to it. However, that doesn't seem to be the case here. These links appeared to be bought and paid for. This is very interesting, and i bet it's going to get even more interesting over the next few days.

It is more like a guy owns one of the roads to walmart and sells the toll booth to a toll booth company that lets the customer get to walmart by going though his booth to get there.

Didn't the FTC get on the se's ass about a year or two ago about making paid listings look like free listings? If that's what happened you should be in a strong position to threaten Y! that you'll tell the FTC about it. I bet they'd back off.

not sure if thats the smartest thing, then ALL your sites could mysteriously dissappear from their listings.

Heh, true. And then the guy is using the toll booth gets a commission on every sale at Walmart 'cause technically he's sending the traffic, even though they would have already been receiving it in the first place. ;)

True. The best thing would be to have someone do it anonymously. I mean, from the surfer's point of view, rather than a site owner's point of view. Because i'm pretty sure that thing with the FTC was about deceiving the surfer. I doubt they'd care about it affecting an adult business.

All's I've got to say is this: I did the SEO work so when you typed "Brazil Bang" or any of the other names of our paysites into Yahoo or Google you would get www.occashpaysite.com to come up #1. I earned that spot, fair and sqaure.

Amazon.com has #1 for "Amazon" and also has an affilaite program...can you just buy that as well? How about buying other affilaite's listings for #1 keywords like "porn".

Bottom line is wildline isn't getting us one hit that we were not getting for ourselves. They are just taking half the money for it.

                            I think that's fucked up.

It's yahoo's world though...I'm just living in it.

If I were anybody of the affiliate program owners I would be very mad at Wildline Corp.
I think the CAP is just another more improved way from Yahoo to increase the clicks to PPC campaigns. Many surfers might already know that the advertising spots on top and the right are no "real" results for what they searched but paid for.
So Yahoo just wants to put those advertising spots into the real SERPs to get more clicks and therefore more profit.
I bet that they did not intend to replace existing listings by affiliates, only by the real site owners themself.

I guess that Yahoo thinks that Wildcorp only resells those spots to real site owners (the affiliate programs) and not to other affiliates as Wildline Corp states in their TOS (they don't accept affiliates) but Yahoo does not think that Wildline signup as affiliates themself.

In my opinion you can't blame Yahoo for this but Wildline because they are abusing the system of Yahoo and the affiliate program to cheat profit away from free SERPs just to get a % of that and divide the profit into 3 parties (Yahoo, the affiliate program and Wildline) instead of the affiliate program only.

Please correct me if I'm wrong as this is quite complicated.

Well maybe Yahoo didn't focus on domain keywords but on general ones?
As we have seen you can also buy a listing for "black porn" and "porn videos" so Yahoo thinks companies should buy those keywords then for their sites.
This way free sites like jays-xxx-links.com would lose search engine traffic and Yahoo would take/replace the affiliates place in the long run and get paid ppc instead the old affiliates pps for example.

Yep and do you think Walmart or big companies like Microsoft would allow something like this?
Imagine someone pays 15cents per click for the spot of microsoft.com to sell Windows XP online or even worse (in Microsofts view) LinuX

I would like to add that they have also done the same to the term "milf hunter".

In this instance - I am "fairly certain" that the directory listing at Yahoo would have been paid for by NastyDollars - they certainly DO have a directory listing.

Having have nasty dollars pay the money then selling them out is a fucking bastards trick.

                                              exactly...

yahoo's excuse will be " we dont actually swap the code on the directory listing , only when the site shows up in results , thus we arent thieving you."

but thats a rather foolish argument because if they really were going to be ethical they would remove the "directory listing" under the search result when it shows up ( as it isnt the real directory listing )

The long and the short of it is, they are using seo's work to make profits.. because those results wouldnt even be in the top #10 if it werent for webmasters seo work..

They banned one of my domains to the point were no pages can be found yet they still hotlink the fucking video content on their video search.

So basicly they removed every webpage from the site but kept the videos

hah, so Jay owned the spot by law? or did he own yahoo, that then got stolen by someone and they are now selling it by the spot??

Yahoo owns it and can do what they want with it, it is not a god given right to be listed on a search engine. And if yahoo were not profitting from listing Jay's site in the first place they made a business decicion, and one thing's for sure, paid listings are more likely to be 100% relevant than unpaid listings...

But I can really understand Jay being ticked off abot it. Nothing sucks more than doing work just for it to be tossed to the side by someone for whatever reason.

Kind of reminds me of a few years ago when people were outraged by TGP's selling spots, nobody was going to participate in 'buying' free traffic. My guess is that in 2-3 years all spots on the first page of all major search engines will be paid for

To me it seems they are just selling you traffic you already own..

They dont promote your product they dont have any content , they dont have an adult site .. all your links rely on their servers working , all your natural links then rely on wildlines servers working , so if wildline goes down the clients links wont work on natural listings like www.mysite.com , that seems a bit worrysom ? and vulnerable to hackers..

And most of all it would just KILL a clients serps eventually.. for the most part sites like www.cumfiesta.com have high hrank for terms like "cumfiesta" because lots of people link to them with www.cumfiesta.com and their ref codes and enjoy high serps's on the engines with their ref codes in them.. if wildline just scoops those results , webmasters will no longer gain anything by linking to sponsors directly , better to add NOFOLLOW to that sponsor and then they dont get and serp from it either , and then eventually wildline wont have anything to buy.
