Hey, just thought I'd let you guys know Dreamhost is having a sale on their shared plans. I don't know when it ends, but it probably won't last longer than a month. It is a shared server, not dedicated, but I've been using them for a few months and I see no reason to go dedicated (yet)

I really can't find a catch with them at all.

Honestly, they have good support. Could be better, but they do get back to you within 24 hours. I think maybe once it took a little longer though.

As for downtime, they did go down for a little bit back in November, but it was only for 15 min or so. It's usually scheduled and they will give you warning several days prior.

Recently, they got hit with a Sober email virus, but I havent experienced any downtime or slowdown from it.

I've been with them since August and I honestly can't find anything wrong with their service. Though I must say, this is the first paid host I've ever used...so I can't offer comparisons to other hosts or anything like that.

I've spoken to several people who have had many problems with them.
I got a list of most of their ips & I absolutely refuse to link trade or traffic trade with anyone who uses them as a host.

1TB for $8

christ, 1TB at webair cost $400+ at webair. plenty more at other hosts.

i had some problem last november with my old host as well.. maybe their in the same datacenter? hehehe do you use their services for tgp/mgp sites (text or thumbs) and tgp/mgp submission without any problem?

Agh! Too many posts...

Oracle Porn: They usually get back to me within 12 hours, but they say allow 24 for a response. Also, they have different support for the urgency of your inquiry/issue. I've never sent them anything urgent, so I figure 12 hours for a typical 'no-rush' issue isn't that bad. Just my opinion...

baddog: Maybe they had trouble with other things than what I utilize to run my site. I really haven't used many of the tools they provide such as chat, quicktime streaming, etc. When did these people use them? I'm thinking maybe they used to suck or something, though they seem good now.

tenderobject: They could be in the same area or even the same datacenter...I don't know. And yes, I do use them to run a text tgp (the one in my sig). Never had any problems with submissions that wasn't just due to my lack of understanding my script(s).

All the problems I've had with them are just because I'm a newbie at setting up scripts, and half the time I don't know what the hell I'm doing.

Any more Q's?

I'd give props to dreamhost. I use them for a couple of virtual accounts. Level3 BW in LA - they are great. I pay $2/mo with 100GB and 5GB storage. I mean $2/mo!!!

I know a lot of adult webmasters who have had trouble with Dreamhost. The problem with Dreamhost is if you use many scripts they will tell you to move to dedicated or another host because you are using too many CPU resources. I have seen people who just run a blog or two get booted.

If you aren't using scripts you should be fine.

Hostive: Hmm, I haven't heard that...and certainly hope it's not true. Their site states that they won't ask you to switch to dedicated or anything unless you're in the top 2%, or using ridiculous amounts of resources.

I wouldn't recommend them for running a message board, or huge chat site...but as far as tgps, freesites, etc I don't think you'll have a problem.

I rebuild my page sometimes upwards of 40 times a day and I get between 150 - 210 gallery submissions per day, and they haven't said a word to me.
