I'm just a small fry. It lasted a month, it switched around, and then it came back to me again. It seems to do this in cycles.

I do not know what caused the yahoo bot to choose my link affiliate code to the site as I am nowhere NEAR an SEO Guru. It was complete luck. I'm betting yahoo would want thousands of dollars for a spot like that, which I don't have

You dont know what your talking about here.. you might think you do but you dont..

this isnt just ref codes, the urls are sent thru a third party first wildline.com your ref code could never accidently show up there..

            How?
It's Yahoo, it doesn't need explaining

Seriously, it can be luck of the draw, how many links/pages you have pointing to that aff code etc. I am not clear on all those details, as they seem to be ever changing.

Yahoo does have a policy about affiliate links being included within thier Sitematch/cap programs. So either they don't enforce it, or the submitter is simply saying the funny url is just a simple tracking code.

Using these programs can be luck of the draw. I submitted one of my sites via a third party, and the only real listing I received was the one for the domain name, which of course I had before I payed. So before the listing was 'free', but after submission every click was costing ~.25 per click.
If you can manage to get listings other than for just your name it can be worth it, just not cheap, and the sites better convert in an amazing fashion

When people submit the sites they are not guaranteed anything but to have their page(s) spidered and updated on a regular basis. Optimization of the submitted pages/info still must be done.

            Or so I have heard

I probably dont' know what I'm talking about. But I do know that my affiliate link code was on the top of yahoo and I didn't pay for it. It doesn't get much more simple.

I can't explain it though. I have no fucking clue how it happened. As I stated, I don't have the $$$ to cover a thing like that.

I do believe that they charge for some of the spots, but mine wasn't one of them

heres one of our sites as well, i've known about this for a while, actually since wildline became an affil.

                        cummy pantyhose

                        http://search.yahoo.com/search?p=cum...&cop=&ei=UTF-8

                        we own cummypantyhose.com.

the search result will show the tld as number one, but the reidrection is through the program that i just showed smokey that kevsh found.

i don't think that wildline is doing anything wrong at all. they are just being very savvy with their game. yahoo is clearly selling our tld out from under us though. cummy pantyhose is optimized pretty well, at least well enough to be the #1 for our tld ownership.

but on the wildline site it says its for program owners only not affiliates ( unless of course wildline is the affiliate )

and it worries me in a few ways, what if wildline were to suddenly go down, then people cant access the real site they were looking for..

Or if wildline was evil they could sell cumfiesta's spot to another program..

Like before they signed up , you just got all those hits for free from yahoo with no cut paid to the affiliate , now your paying an affiliate for the same hits you were getting for free.
                                            i'm looking into it.

i'm pretty passive unless i think someone has done something wrong. at worst it seems that wildline is just taking advantage of something that yahoo is allowing. so my beef needs to be with yahoo and not the affil that is just taking advantage of a situation that yahoo is allowing.

                                            we're on it.

I want to sell widgets, i buy www.widgets.com, i then pay yahoo $200 to get in the yahoo directory , now i seo my site for keyword "widgets", i get an affiliate program and start my biz up..

after a year lets say, i sell 10 widgets every month 9 of my widgets are sold by affiliates and 1 of my widgets gets sold thru my yahoo link..

ok now in steps wildline , yahoo sells my link to wildline, now i sell the SAME 10 widgets but now i pay my affiliates for all 10 widget sales , when before i was getting one a month from yahoo..

                                              cliffnotes, i have lost profit..

well its yahoo's site so really they can do what they want, but if you paid for a directory listing its basically robbery.

and yes wildline is just taking advantage of a good thing.. cant blame them for that , but i would ask them to explain what sales they are sending you that you wouldnt have already been getting ? or ask them to leave the program because your just paying a cut for something you already have..

I accidentally ended up with a top spot for a search term on yahoo with my affiliate code in it for a sponsor above their site. I didn't pay for it. Hell, I couldn't afford to pay for it anyway! I'm just a small fry. It lasted a month, it switched around, and then it came back to me again. It seems to do this in cycles.

I do not know what caused the yahoo bot to choose my link affiliate code to the site as I am nowhere NEAR an SEO Guru. It was complete luck. I'm betting yahoo would want thousands of dollars for a spot like that, which I don't have
I've had the #1 spot for a huge paysites for months now too... But they do sell spots... read the whole thread.

when the first thread about this was posted on gfy , the reason why the program owner started the thread was because they noticed a huge drop in yahoo search engine traffic , but when checking their keywords in yahoo their spots remained in the same spot.. so clearly they are being sold their own traffic..

they had never heard of wildline and didnt even know they were an affiliate.

this could get very interesting. yahoo could easily tell us all to get fucked and make us overbid what wildline is paying them. not very ethical, but then again, what is really as far as alot of things that i've seen happen in this internet bizness.

in the widgets example , wildline may very well come here and say the difference is wildline will send 3 sales , so the combined total will be 12 sales, you may lose the existing 1 sale that you made with no ref code from yahoo but also 2 more sale you wouldnt have gotten, then it actually works out to a profit for the company . because normally they were making 10 sales a month ( 9 thru affiliates 1 ont heir own ) now they get 12 sales all thru affiliates = more profit

On the other hand they are paying for what Yahoo would normally give to the Owner site as well.(This could very well be the owner utilizing aff links as well, in which case the search for the domain name is costing more than it normally would, but I guess that is a pay to play backfire)

well under the program your right, but that doesnt mean a company couldnt do it.. you would have to take it up with yahoo at that point because i believe you would also start to run into problems with DMCA , like your domain would likely fall under DMCA. Thats still not to say yahoo couldnt do it " sell coke to pepsi's affiliate "

and all this still hinges somewhat on the CAP user ( wildline) .

like if wildline goes down , all those sites would also go down... if someone hacks wildline your fucked.. if wildline gets bought by some cammer and he redirects all hits to a dialer it makes your domain look bad.. like if someone clicks on a ink that clearly says www.widgets.com on it and gets a dialer installed they are going to associate www.widgets.com with dialers

lets say wildline doesnt like xxxjays post, and decides to redirect all his hits to a dialer.. or a virus..

then anyone who visits yahoo and finds www.brazilbang.com and clicks it , they think they are getting a virus/dialer from www.brazilbang.com

sure xxxjay could complain to yahoo and get wildlines CAP closed , but that doesnt help the rep of www.brazilbang.com

In my opinion I believe the affiliate still earned it regardless of the efforts made by xxxjay to purchase the spot and or optimize for the listing...

As I said before, live and learn. Back to the drawing board for jay with this experience under his belt. Now where in that does it justify penalizing the affiliate by holding funds or not accepting traffic?

I know this is only a small part of the topic, but it does keep coming up in conversation. Don't you sponsor programs rob the affiliates enough... not to mention all the favoritism over whether the affiliate was established or not, all affiliates should be treated equal and instead of saying the "good" affiliate would be fine in this situation and the not so "good" affiliate should be canned... why the guy who barely makes a living... why not the one who is sending x amount of sales per month.
