This sort of thing would actually happen more often if funeral homes didn't embalm people so quickly after death. Before embalming fluid, the dead would occasionally wake up. There are even cases where old coffins have been unearthed and they are torn apart inside with fingernail marks on the wood where the person tried to get out.
