For the root of high taxes today, you want to look at union corruption, welfare fraud, and benefits for illegal aliens.

You couldn't be farther from the truth.
Welfare payments account for just over 1% of our federal budget. Even at a fraud rate of 10% (which is way higher than estimates), welfare fraud accounts for 0.1% of our federal spending.
Unions hurt businesses more than our government. And in any case, unions are used to protect employees from getting completely shit on. Still, please tell me how union corruption adds to our federal spending.
As for events that happened in the past having nothing to do with today's taxes, you are so wrong it's sad.
19% of our budget goes to pay interest on our debt. That is more money than we spend on education, public housing, job training, and veteran benefits
COMBINED. So when a President spends a shitload of money on complete and utter bullshit, we still pay for it 30-40 years later. Lets not forget that it's the Republican administrations that have run up the most debt.
But that doesn't even come close to touching our military spending which is near 30%. 10 times what we spend on education. We also spend a shitload on Medicare, thanks to a sweet bill your Republican cronies passed for the Pharm companies that doesn't allow us to negotiate prices (despite the immense buying power).
So you want to know why taxes are high? Because we have a shitload of fucking debt that we pay interest on. Because we give tax cuts to any company that donates to our politicians. For fuck sakes, NewsCorp didn't pay a dime in taxes 2 out of the past 4 years. That means I paid more in taxes than the billion dollar NewsCorp in 2 of the past 4 years. We give Exxon and other energy companies HUGE tax cuts while they rake in record profits. Corporate taxes only account for 10% of our tax revenue, while the workers pay for the rest.
I'd love to hear you respond and tell me how the 1% of our spending you listed is somehow responsible for our high taxes. But you won't respond, because if it's not written on some conservative blog, you can't form a thought on your own.
