Woman goes to court to keep her personalized license plates

Quote:
Would you go to court just to keep your personalized license plates? That's what a North Las Vegas woman is doing. The DMV ruled Stacy Moore's license plates, which read "XSTACY," violate Nevada revised statute.

This comes after someone called the DMV to complain. A DMV panel decided the plates are inappropriate because the term could be perceived as referring to the drug, Ecstasy.

Moore says she got the personalized plates nearly twenty years ago, and to her, "XSTACY" is simply a clever play on words describing a feeling, not a drug. She has hired an attorney, put up a website, and is taking her fight to District Court.

"My rights have been stomped on, that is my first amendment right, why can't I have my name on a plate, when the correct spelling was already taken?" said Moore.

"It doesn't matter if it's one complaint or a hundred, we have to act on it," said DMV Spokesperson Kevin Malone. "When objectionable license plates are brought to our attention, the law requires us to act on it."

Stacy still has her plates; she says if she loses in District Court, she plans to take her fight to Federal Court.

Isn't that a lot of trouble to go through over a personalized license plate?

Hmm, I wonder how they'd feel about my personalized license plate idea: SORUEZ
