    HARDWARE ISSUE: windows wont boot when external harddrive

    windows wont boot when external harddrive is attached via usb , i see black screen with underscore. When i take HD off it boots fine.


    Ideas?

      nah , i reboot and get the black screen with underscore windows hasnt started to load.

      I went into BIOS and disabled USB from the boot Oorder already.

        Yeah I was going to say boot order

        Try setting the internal HD to first boot maybe.. shrug
        .

            Perhaps a jumper setting on one or all the drives should be checked. This ancient technology still has a way of screwing things up!

                  I'm guessing a jump setting as well.... if it's set to Master, it might be conflicting with the HD in your computer.
