6-7 weeks old is pretty young to be away from its mother so you are going to have to go through that for a bit until it is few weeks older. Hang in there though because it will get better.
Welcome to the pug club
My pug is nearly a year and a half old and she is wonderful (so is my spaniel..though she chews a lot more!).
As far as walking lots goes - be careful with that as pugs can over heat rather easily. So, watch them in the heat and listen to them and know when to pick them up and go back home.
