Everyone thinks they're intelligent when they're fifteen to eighteen, and that they have the whole world figured out. Usually they realize there's quite a bit more depth as time goes on.
Hating on religion is fine, but there's no need to broadcast your disdain unless you're doing it for the sole purpose of attention - much as the case with most of the drama is here.
