She obviously had issues with kids/grandkids and she decided to donate the bulk of her wealth to charity. Not a bad thing.

Speaking of not leaving the kids anything: I have a friend that is worth multiple millions. He was married and had three children by his wife. His wife developed a brain tumor and died. His wife had a sizable life insurance policy with him being the sole benefactor. Two of his children decided that they should recieve part of the policy and told him so. He said no to that. The two children sued him and to his surprise (and mine) the court agreed with the two children and awarded them a hundred thousand each. He then informed the two children that they were not very bright as he was removing them from his will (which he did) and leaving all of his wealth to the child that did not sue him. They each would have recieved more than a million each upon his death.
The sad part is that when he dies the two will probably sue their sibling and who knows what a court might do.
