Christmastime is so pregnant with mortality. I find myself looking back, turning pages,
visiting the past. And forwards from there, tracing lines that illuminate the present
circumstance. Do you? And do you weary from the exercise?
There's one life I might have saved. But it's not like I leapt into the frozen river or
anything. Just a person. Near their line. Maybe pulled back. Maybe definitively. I'll
never know. My life's sure been saved a few times. I see their faces on the insides of my
eyelids, before I fall asleep. I weep. I fall asleep.
How shall i speak to you? You show interest in so many forms of speech. I blush. I am in
love. You fall asleep.
It suits me to feminize you. Strength could only be feminine. But dispassion? There, your humanity reveals a seam, a pretense is exposed, and -- evermore -- you are like a dream.
