    common French Toast mistake...

Don't use fresh bread.. it will fall apart once in the egg batter. Leave the bread out over night on a cookie sheet covered loosely with paper towels. In the morning it will be dried out... NOW you're ready.

    eggs
    milk
    sugar
    cinnamon
    vanilla syrup

mix, dip, grill and eat with honey butter.

Easy b'fast for lots of people.

I always use fresh bread... just don't overdip and you are fine. I learned from a top chef in New York.
I've trusted my sites to them for over a decade...

Alton Brown recommends dried out bread... by the time it's done on the outside, it's still creamy on the inside.

naahh. If your bread even begins to look like falling apart you're putting it in the egg WAAAY too long... you use fresh bread but you dunk it in the eggs very briefly. Soy and linseed bread is the best and the eggs are great with a fair amount of salt and pepper and no milk. Fried in a griddle pan with maple syrup is best. French toast is my specialty.
Sugar, cinnamon and vanilla extract makes it sound a bit too candy... then again that probably reflects an american palette.. we have it a little more savoury over here.

When I try to make French toast the bread usually surrenders to the eggs.

I kid, I kid. Just joking!

The best french toast is made from the densest bread. Challah is my first choice if I can find it or have time to make it. Brioche and sourdough are also good choices. If all else fails, a premium sandwich bread can stand up to the task.

I don tknow if this sounds retarded but whatever bread I have used... I toast it briefly in the toaster before dipping it. I also throw in some Grand Marnier into the mix with the vanilla extract to give it that extra oomph.

                              I love it.

Anybody ever use potato bread? That is really good, too. Never tried leaving the bread out overnight, but I'll give it a try.
