Warchild, one of the things I have learned is the people standing on the sides mocking any efforts are usually the ones profiting the most from the fucked up situation that the business finds itself in. Enjoy making money from it.
Lostmind, one of the things that the RIAA didn't have going for it was a clear understanding of the problem and implications before they started taking action. They went though many long and complicated channels that just don't work. They were often defeated by simple offshore blinds and less than cooperative legal jurisdictions. They played all sorts of games with the goal of having their content removed. What they didn't realize is that torrent sites (and tubes, fake file hosts, and the like) are snakes... if you cut off the tail, they grow another one and keep going.
The funniest part so far has been finding that some of the biggest posters on GFY have their greasy little fingers stuck in the torrent pie. Sad, really.
My feeling is threads like this are mostly complaints from the weekend warriors complaining that they might not be able to download pr0n when they are in their dorms for the next semester.
