This would be something not too important if you were taking down wtc.
for the record i think it was shitty construction that brought them down , and admitting that makes america seem partially to blame..

First, what building in Edmonton here? you still live here?
They cut and do that demo so less explosives have to be used, the less explosives the less chance of colateral damage. When buildings that arnt around anything else get demo'ed there isnt near as much pre work, they just use more explosives and clear a bigger area for the safe zone.
To think that 40+ year old construction standards didnt play some roll would jsut be silly, when the towers were built they couldnt test as much as they do now, nor did they ever think fully fuelled airliners twice the size of any they currently had would be crashing into the buildings.
Dont forget in 93 when 1500lbs were exploded near important structural supports and that only put a hole in 5 floors.
Dont foget at the bottom was where the most reinforced collumns were.
Demo'ing a 5 story building with a single elevator is different then 110 stories with 12+ elevators. I highly doubt even the most skilled demo crews could take it down with 200lbs. Even with the shape charges that they use.
