NYC Transit Strike...Ain'tcha' glad u got a home job?

NYC is under the thumb of the first transit strike in 25 years.

Mind you MILLIONS of people have no transportation and it's 'slap a ho' cold in the region with temperatures below 0.

If any of you have been to NY City you'll know this is some evil assed shit to deal with and it's the Christmas season to boot! People arriving from all over the world to visit family and can't get to see them.

It is ffffffuuuucked up and people back home there are PISSED!

It's costing $400 million a day in losses to the city. That's like hurricane damage #'s.

Yeah right. Sue every worker and see if they ever have the transit system back up again.

Well it's illegal for these workers to walk off of their job. I was somewhat sympathetic to their cause yesterday before I heard the whole story.

The argument is the union's unwillingness to bump pension contributions to 6% from 2%.

I've never worked for a union, I don't quite understand their purpose these days.

They are fining the union $1 million per day that they strike.

                    Ja! Isn't that nuts!!!

I can see why they want to up the contributions cause so many major corporations have fucked their employees over so much over the past 20 years but striking during bitter cold during the holiday season is unreasonable and unconcionable.

I remember back in the '80's when the Air Traffic Controllers went on strike. It was illegal for them to do so and President Reagan in his wisdom fired all of their asses and people poured in to take the jobs left vacant. They got no sympathy from the public who were stranded and medical supplies that went undelivered.

Same could happen here fast. If they fire the striking members there will be jobs lined up like no tomorrow. Those jobs pay well with benefits. With all the people left jobless from the disasters and outsourcing I'm quite sure they'll have to beat the applicants off with sticks.

This may not end pleasantly. People are suffering horribly during this time.

The original reason for unions were to protect the workers from abuse and exploitation. It was horrific the way employers treated workers in the old days. Then the people got together and improved working conditions drastically. A true American rights success story.

Yet soon, like any group, criminals took over and turned the unions into mafia-like control groups that had the power to alter elections. They became what they originally fought against.

That's why you have outsourcing now. It's become a liability to hire an American worker. The majority are ill, on drugs, alcohol and always looking for a way to sue for big cash thus raising insurance rates to an unprofitable level.

IBM, Disney, just to name a few got to the point where they just said 'fuck em' and dumped the employees. Fudiciary speaking, the stockholders were getting shorted.

There's alot of workers that dont even want to strike. They're just standing with the union.

The local100 is allready down 2/3 of their assets.

You keep talking as if they are going to pay.

Also, "Dear Mr. Smith, you are charged with striking, what is your defense?"

"Sir, I didn't want to strike but I walked to work and nobody was there so I went home."

                          "Case dismissed"

This strike is fucking up the shopping season, postal, and dining and box offices.

People will be losing their businesses if it keeps going on. Watch as soon as thousands of businesses go under who shows up at the sherrif's auctions to scoop up the bankruptcies.

                            This is NOT good.

I hear ya talking Tonya but NY beats "Sunny Arizona" any day of the week, even if ya have to walk a little bit because of a strike.

This is a link of NYTimes stories compiled about people's commutes. My sister still lives in NYC, she has been walking over 50 blocks each way to get to work. She says it takes her about an hour... if you ever lived in NYC, then you know just how important the subway system is to getting around... You can't get anywhere without the subways.

$400-600 Million dollars a day I wonder why the transit workers are not each millionairs.

There is only 30K of them.

It's 2days pay for each one day that the strike is on. This comes straight out of their paycheck. They're required to show up at work, and picket outside. (even in this weather).
