Fears grow for stolen penguin
LONDON (AFP) - Fears grew for a little three-month-old jackass penguin stolen three days earlier from a zoo on the Isle of Wight, off the south coast of England.
Toga, who is just 30 centimetres (12 inches) tall, with the brown and white colouring of a baby penguin that still relies on its parents to feed, is liable to die without special care, zoo officials say.
"Toga is very vocal and makes a noise like a donkey braying -- hence the name 'jackass penguin'," a Hampshire police spokeswoman said.
"He needs a special diet with supplements and he also needs to be kept cool, with access to plenty of fresh water."
Karen Bright of the Amazon World zoo said: "Someone must know of his whereabouts. Our main priority is to have the baby returned as soon as possible."
One theory is that Toga was the victim of the popularity of the wildlife documentary "March of the Penguins," recently released in Britain, which depicts the life of emperor penguins in the brutal Antarctic.
