In general I prefer cold, but some beers don't really show their flavor until they warm up a bit. Generally, the more watery and flavorless, the colder you want it. This explains American preference for it being as cold as possible.
Nothing beats a beer cooled on ice in the summer.
Give me a cooler and ice over a refrigerator any day.
