i've never seen a car split donw the middle like that. thats the sign of a crash where no brakes were applied before the collision. man, you are very lucky to have her. i haven't seen many crashes that bad where the driver survived. she must have some nasty bruising from that crash.

thank god she came out of it in the condition she is in.

She was driving in a 35 zone, but she fell asleep, so it could have been faster or slower..

She had to get up a curb in order to hit the pole head on like that too.. so the impact on the wheels slowed her a little bit.. but not much

Probably a good thing she was asleep when she hit it. Being relaxed like that most likely saved her from worse injuries. I am so glad she is ok. That is one lucky lady.

I can't tell from the pics, but did the airbag deploy? With my wife's accident a few months back the bag didn't trigger - we figured out later that because she'd been hit by a pickup truck, the impact to the hood of her Sunfire was too high for the airbag sensor to function.

She's lucky she didn't get hurt worse or hurt anyone else.

Never drive when you are feeling drowsy...falling asleep at the wheel is one of the most common causes for single car accidents. Park it and rest for awhile or call someone to pick you up.

It's just not worth the consequences to think you can stay awake when you begin to feel sleepy - it only takes a second or two to run off the road, hit a pole, hit another car or hit a pedestrian.

Anyway, I'm happy you can celebrate the holidays together...you have a lot to be thankful for.
