I have 1 dog and 3 cats (one 1 year old and 2 kittens). I love all my pets, but I think that having cats is a lot nicer than a dog. For one, a dog is always there wanting attention which is nice at times, but sometimes it's a bit too much. Plus there's the walking job. Then with dogs, there's the outdoor bathroom job and setting them up in a kennel when you won't be home overnight, so no spur of the momment trips with a dog if you don't have a good kennel that's now always filled.
With cats, they're nice because they pretty much keep to themselves. My oldest cat usually comes over and greets me in the morning and the others are around throughout the day, they'll come over for a little attention, then go play around of if you're watching tv, they'll jump up on your lap. Cats are great because, of course, they use a litterbox which is nice because if needed, you can just get up and leave for a few days (if you have feeding/water dishes made for it). I guess the 2 bad things about cats are cleaning out the litterbox and the fear of them destroying furniture. I haven't had any problems with my cats yet (knock on wood), ha ha.
