If I want to make a DVD that will eventually be sent to be duplicated proffesionally, is Adobe Encore an acceptable software?
Or is it better to let a pro do the authoring, too?

adobe encore is crap and complicated.....just read the reviews on it. Save your money. Much better stuff available out there.★★★

My question is more along the lines of, "If I use this, will it be as universally playable as if I had a pro do the authoring."
I'd like control over the look, so I'm wondering the best way to do that. Give Photoshop files for the menu +tapes of the video to an authoring outfit? Or try to put it all together myself?HAL on TEDx:

You really should send your authored stuff to the duplicator on DLT tape, most good duplicators will not accept a authored dvd on burned dvd media, unless it was burned on authoring dvd drive. Make sure you talk to your duplicator to see what they acceptComment
