Instant messaging confidentiality

Our senior tech sent this to me:

http://www.tomshardware.com/2007/08/...ing/page4.html

As I read that, am I crazy for being concerned that every 'confidential' IM conversation is now the property of AOL, Microsoft, etc.?

There are tons of companies whose staff use IM as a major part of the way that sensitive client info is sent on the net.

A pandora's box of issues there.
