It is actually really fun. I used to do that in Daytona when I was younger. We never had waves that big, but they move really really fast.

that is pretty cool .. I surfed during the effects of a hurricane once .. nothing like that but in NY .... a big day is like 5' face .... this day was like a 9-11 foot face day with a hard current ... off of Long Beach Long Island ... i was doing OK ..the drop in was sick ... then i was paddling out and instead of going under the break I thought i would be able to just bust through the lip of this wave .... I was wrong ..unlike a 4 foot wave the lip on 10 feet is like 4 feet thick and it took me over the falls .... I hit the bottom so hard that it knocked the wind out of me ....then i felt my board pulling me up from the leash ... for a minute i didn't think I'd ever get to the top. when i got they some one was already there looking for me said he saw me go under and i was under for a long time ... i road the next wave in on my belly and spent the rest of the day on the beach ..thinking what the fuck just happen ..

ya ... it's big ... not like Cali ..but for a good 4 years i surfed just about every day between June and sept ... like i said you get some nice clean 4 foot faces ...nothing to big on average .. but there are bigger days here and there ..

haha i remember doing that out in Santa Cruz, CA on the exact same size wave you're talking about.. i think it was during el nino so the waves were considerably larger then normal. i thought i could beat the lip of the wave.. i was too slow and i got to the top of it and it just slammed my ass from about 10ft right on my back and tumbled me for about a minute before i came up after that.. scared the shit outta me but it was still fun..
