Yes those things happened.

I was a full member of APIC and some of todays biggest guys were stealing content or supporting those who did. Some of them even walk up to me at shows and with a smirk tell me they were stealing my content.c They don't offer to pay for it.

Now we are under threat from someone stealing from us, now it's a crime. The culprit has become the victim.

The saying "people in glass houses etc." comes to mind.
the hoops of the DMCA it a one page faxed document. yes the DMCA safe harbor provision can be exploited but the burden is so small any content provider is to lazy to follow the rules deserves to be exploited.
