Because Traffic and Exposure is one of the only incentives successful people are looking for. As you said before, a "guru" wont take time to write for you, if what you can give in return is $100.

They want traffic and exposure to brand themselves.

So you will have to research the topics yourself, write it yourself, grow the site yourself. When you have done that, then - maybe - you can attract people to the site.
